Farm to patient traceability

April 7, 2017 | No Comments

The Cornwall Food Product Unit (CFPU) is a part of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, providing patient meals to three hospital sites in Truro, Hayle and Penzance.

CFPU recently hosted a supplier day to promote the launch of work that is being completed for Scan4Safety in relation to GS1 and PEPPOL compliance.

The Unit is introducing a software system named Saffron, from supplier Fretwell-Downing. This will provide streamlined inventory management, recipes, including nutritional analysis, and purchase to pay workflows.  As well as saving staff time, the aim of the service improvement is to provide vital ‘Farm to Patient’ food traceability for both dietary and product recall requirements.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is one of six Scan4Safety demonstrator sites in NHS England implementing GS1 and PEPPOL standards and is the only one with its own food production unit. CFPU will be required to identify the origin of products and provide significant details of allergens, micro-nutrients and ingredients, providing easy traceability, origin and product information.
