Taking the First Steps

The Scan4Safety journey begins with robust organisational structure and a methodological approach. Each organisation must follow a preliminary engagement process in order to establish a foundation for the programme.

First Steps for Trusts

Engagement with relevant stakeholders in the Trust is an essential first step.

  • Nominate a Board Level Lead / Champion / Sponsor
  • Nominate a Senior Clinical Champion
  • Develop a current state assessment and high level GS1 and PEPPOL adoption plan
  • Ensure your patient wristbands are compliant and issued to all in-patients on admission
  • Update your tender documents to include compliance clauses in favour of those suppliers that have started GS1 and PEPPOL adoption

First Steps for Suppliers

  • Submit a statement of commitment to the Department of Health and Social Care
  • Complete a Supplier Readiness Survey
  • Join the DHSC workspace called ‘GS1 and PEPPOL adoption: Suppliers’
